In June, I embarked on a family trip to this stunning destination, guided by the belief that surfing and family time could coexist harmoniously. Traditionally, these two aspects seem at odds; the desire for a perfect wave often clashes with the diverse preferences of family members. While the summer months typically leave Morocco's surf scene lacking in swell, my focus was not solely on catching waves. After some deliberation, we settled on Morocco due to its unique cultural appeal, proximity to Europe, and the allure of its Arabic-speaking heritage. Although we briefly considered Egypt, the idea of a 'surf adventure' ultimately led us to Imsouane.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Hamid, the owner of the O Surf Experience, whose warmth and hospitality set the tone for our stay. The lodge itself is strategically positioned above “The Bay,” which boasts the longest wave in Africa, making it an ideal spot for surfers of all levels. Each family member found their groove: my older daughter embraced the longboard, while my younger daughter caught her best wave on a 5’10 Chili. My wife and I glided effortlessly on our own boards, sharing smiles and laughter as we rode the waves together.
The atmosphere was nothing short of miraculous, a stark contrast to the usual tensions that can arise during family vacations.
