Experience the Enchanting Gharnati Music with the Orchestre de Rabat

Join the Orchestre de Rabat for a Night of Gharnati Music

On June 2, 2026, immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of gharnati music as the esteemed Orchestre de Rabat takes the stage under the direction of the talented Mohamed Amine Debbi. This captivating concert will feature the mesmerizing vocals of Bahaa Ronda, known for her powerful and emotive performances. The event will be held at the Institut du Monde Arabe, located at 1 rue des Fossés-Saint-Bernard, in the heart of Paris, from 7 PM to 9 PM.

The gharnati style, deeply rooted in the glorious traditions of Arabo-Andalusian culture from Granada prior to 1492, is a musical form that has evolved significantly over the centuries. Introduced in Morocco through the School of Tlemcen, the genre has seen considerable growth since the late 19th century, particularly in cities like Oujda and Rabat, where it has found a significant foothold. Following the passing of the legendary master Ahmed Piro in 2024, a new generation of artists, including Debbi and Ronda, are now carrying the torch of this cherished musical legacy.

Mohamed Amine Debbi, who founded the Youth Orchestra of Al-Andalus, has established himself as a key figure in the revival and preservation of gharnati music. His expertise spans the eleven _noubates_ and the complex rhythms of Tarab Al-Ala, and he is dedicated to safeguarding this cultural heritage through anthological projects and a robust teaching and research agenda. Meanwhile, Bahaa Ronda, trained by the late Ahmed Piro and a previous member of the Chabab al-Andalous orchestra, has graced numerous prestigious festivals both in Morocco and abroad, showcasing the depth and beauty of this musical repertoire.

Tickets for this enchanting evening are affordably priced at €26 for general admission, €22 for reduced rates, and only €12 for those under 26. Reservations are highly recommended to ensure your place at this remarkable event.
