This week, the operational units of the National Police successfully dismantled the criminal structure of two organized networks involved in drug trafficking in western Algeria. The operation led to the confiscation of 1 quintal and 36 kilograms of processed cannabis originating from Morocco, as well as the arrest of four individuals, according to a statement released by the authorities on Thursday.
The first operation was carried out by the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Béchar, resulting in the disruption of an attempt to smuggle a shipment of drugs from Morocco, which amounted to 79 kilograms and 250 grams of processed cannabis. During this operation, three members of the criminal network were apprehended, and an impressive sum of 365 million Algerian dinars was recovered, representing the proceeds of their illicit activities. In a second operation executed by the mobile judicial police in Sidi Bel Abbès, authorities seized 57 kilograms of processed cannabis, effectively paralyzing the criminal activities of this organized network. One of its members was arrested, along with the confiscation of a vehicle used for transporting these illegal substances.
The statement also noted that the suspects were subsequently presented before the public prosecutor at the courts of Béchar and Sidi Bel Abbès.
