Positive Gains for the Casablanca Stock Exchange

The Casablanca Stock Exchange experienced a positive closing on Tuesday, with its main index, the MASI, rising by 0.48% to reach 18,076.72 points. This upward trend reflects a robust performance across various sectors, particularly among companies recognized for their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices. The MASI ESG index, which tracks firms with superior ESG ratings as evaluated by Moody’s ESG Solutions, increased by 0.76% to settle at 1,348.57 points, indicating a growing interest in sustainable investment.

Conversely, the MASI 20 index, which encompasses the 20 most liquid stocks, saw a slight decline of 0.18%, closing at 1,311.23 points. However, the MASI Mid and Small Cap index, which focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises, posted a gain of 0.5%, ending at 1,718.67 points. This divergent performance amongst the indices underscores the varying dynamics at play within the market.

Sector-wise, notable gains were recorded in the 'Mining' sector, which surged by 3.71%, followed by 'Forestry and Paper' with a 3.38% increase, and 'Real Estate Participation and Promotion' up by 2.92%. On the flip side, the 'Beverages' sector faced a downturn of 3.13%, along with 'Food Production' declining by 1.41%, and 'Distributors' which fell by 0.92%.

Trade volume reached over 219.91 million dirhams (MDH), primarily in the central market. Leading the transactions were Managem (43.48 MDH), Attijariwafa Bank (23.34 MDH), and BCP (19.61 MDH). The total market capitalization surpassed 1,066.06 billion dirhams, illustrating the overall health of the financial ecosystem.

On an individual stock level, the best performers included Minière Touissit, which saw a significant jump of 9.97% to 3,243 dirhams, followed by Alliances rising by 3.72% to 404 dirhams, and Med Paper increasing by 3.38% to 24.5 dirhams. In contrast, Société des Boissons du Maroc suffered a notable decline of 4.04% to 2,020 dirhams, along with Mutandis dropping by 3.86% to 224 dirhams, and Zellidja decreasing by 3.68% to 262 dirhams.
