Cancellation of the Friendly Match Between Morocco and El Salvador

Morocco-El Salvador Friendly Match Canceled

Yamil Bukele, the president of the Salvadoran Football Federation, has officially announced a change in the schedule of friendly matches for the national team during the upcoming international break in June. The friendly match that was originally set to take place against Morocco has been canceled. This decision follows a formal notification received from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), which outlined the reasons for this cancellation. The Moroccan team, facing scheduling conflicts due to national competitions and injuries to key players, will be unable to travel to the United States as initially planned. Consequently, the Moroccan squad would be missing at least one-third of its selected players available for FIFA competitions.

Given the circumstances, it became impractical for Morocco to make the trip to the U.S. on May 29 with an incomplete roster. Therefore, the FRMF has informed the Salvadoran Federation about the match's cancellation that was scheduled to occur in Washington D.C. In an attempt to salvage the situation, the Moroccan Federation proposed hosting the match in Rabat on June 2, offering to cover the travel and accommodation expenses for the Salvadoran delegation.

However, this proposal was declined by the Salvadoran Federation. Bukele clarified that according to FIFA regulations, it is not permissible to play matches on two different continents during the same international break. Additionally, the Salvadoran coaching staff has already arranged two friendly matches in the United States during the same time frame, making a trip to Morocco unfeasible.
