Record Number of Citizenships Granted
In a remarkable development, a total of 69,017 individuals acquired Belgian citizenship last year, marking a new record since the initiation of such records in 1992. The majority of these new citizens hail from Morocco, followed closely by those from Romania and Syria, reflecting the diverse fabric of Belgium's immigrant community.
Population Growth and Demographic Changes
According to Statbel, Belgium's population witnessed an increase of exactly 42,083 from January 1, 2025, to the beginning of this year, representing a growth rate of 0.36 percent. This brings the total population of Belgium to a staggering 11,867,634 residents. In the year 2025 alone, Belgium recorded 108,033 births, while the number of deaths rose to 112,923. Notably, the influx of immigrants during this period exceeded the number of individuals leaving the country by approximately 47,500, although this figure is lower than the net migration seen between 2021 and 2024.
