Austria Applauds Moroccan Reforms and Urges Stronger Euro-African Partnership

Austrian Recognition of Moroccan Initiatives

On April 22, 2026, Austria expressed its appreciation for Morocco's ongoing reforms and its commitment to South-South cooperation, highlighting the need to enhance strategic partnerships between Morocco and the European Union, as well as within the euro-African space. This acknowledgment came in the wake of a working visit to Vienna by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, who was invited by his Austrian counterpart, Beate Meinl-Reisinger. During their discussions, the significance of Morocco's role in fostering a new model of South-South cooperation was underscored, emphasizing the importance of triangular cooperation involving Rabat, Vienna, and their African partners.

Reinforcing Dialogue and Cooperation

Both nations reaffirmed the necessity of strengthening dialogue and collaboration between the European Union and its Southern neighbors, alongside the euro-African community, especially in light of the evolving landscape of regional partnerships. Austria welcomed the outcomes of the 15th EU-Morocco Association Council held in Brussels on January 29, 2026, and the Mediterranean Pact launched in Barcelona in November 2025, which aims to establish a partnership grounded in mutual trust and shared responsibility.

Furthermore, the two countries reiterated their commitment to a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, advocating for the peaceful coexistence of Israel and Palestine within secure and recognized borders, in accordance with international law and UN resolutions. The ministers concluded their meeting by emphasizing the robust historical partnership between Morocco and Austria and expressed a mutual desire to further strengthen this relationship.
