ASC Ville de Dakar Participates in Basketball Africa League's Sahara Conference
The Senegalese basketball team, ASC Ville de Dakar (ASCVD), has officially arrived in Rabat, Morocco, to compete in the Sahara Conference, part of the sixth season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The tournament is set to commence on Friday, April 22, and will run until May 3, 2026. This annual event brings together some of the best teams from across Africa, showcasing the continent's burgeoning basketball talent.
Competing in the Sahara Conference alongside ASCVD are notable teams such as FUS de Rabat from Morocco, Al Ahly from Egypt, JCA Kings from Ivory Coast, Club Africain from Tunisia, and the Maktown Flyers from Nigeria. Last season marked ASC Ville de Dakar's inaugural participation in the BAL, where they faced a challenging competition, finishing last in their conference with a record of two victories and four defeats, which unfortunately left them out of the Finals 8. However, the team did achieve a significant milestone by defeating the reigning champions, Petro de Luanda from Angola, showcasing their potential to compete at high levels.
The BAL's Kalahari Conference recently concluded, determining the teams that will progress further in the tournament. Teams such as Al Ahly of Tripoli (Libya), the championship-holding Petro de Luanda, Dar City Basket from Tanzania, and APR from Rwanda have successfully qualified for the playoffs. These playoffs are scheduled to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, from May 22 to 31.
For the upcoming competition, the roster of ASC Ville de Dakar includes a mix of local and international talents: Lamine Badji, Mouhamed Camara, Bara Ndiaye, Abdoul Aziz Sy, Mohamed Lamine Bara Diop, Samba Dali Fall, Ibrahima Sylla, and Pape Moussa Diallo from Senegal, alongside Matthieu Missonnier and Axel Toupane from France, Deng Andgok Yak Deng from South Sudan, Souleymane Diabaté from Ivory Coast, and Ater Majok from Sudan.
