Hakimi's Call for Justice in African Football
Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan international and key player for Paris Saint-Germain, has recently made headlines following his performance in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool, which PSG won 2-0. After the match, he faced questions from the media regarding the controversial final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) where Morocco faced Senegal. Despite apologizing for the infamous towel incident that marred the final, Hakimi firmly believes that the title awarded to the Atlas Lions by the CAF Appeals Jury should be upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Expressing his sentiments, Hakimi stated, "This is a challenging time, characterized by tensions on the pitch. I am not proud of the image we projected with the towel incident. Nonetheless, the team performed well on a sporting level. We respect our opponents and the competition. We are currently assessing the situation and hope for a decision that favors football and Africa. I hope we can achieve victory, as we deserve it and cannot leave the pitch under such circumstances." His remarks were made during an interview with Movistar+.
