The residents of Beni Ammar Kasbah have urgently appealed to the relevant authorities to address the significant challenges facing their area, emphasizing the need to enhance infrastructure and alleviate isolation. This intervention is crucial for ensuring a minimum standard of living and safeguarding the health of the local population from escalating risks.
Life in the kasbah is marked by numerous daily hardships, the most pressing of which is the accumulation of household waste due to the lack of a proper waste disposal site, posing a serious threat to public health. Furthermore, the presence of deep potholes in the streets, resulting from rain or incomplete construction work, has not been rectified, leading to a deteriorating situation. The roads connecting the kasbah to the cities of Zerhoun, Nazzala, and Fes have also shown significant degradation, primarily due to these potholes, creating real dangers for road users in light of the absence of regular maintenance.
In the education sector, the local elementary school suffers from crumbling infrastructure, with classrooms, doors, windows, and sanitation facilities in a state of disrepair that necessitates immediate intervention for rehabilitation. Additionally, residents are facing recurrent interruptions in their access to drinking water, despite the recent rainfall across the country. This issue is attributed to the outdated water supply pipes linking the kasbah to Ain Al-Ansar, which date back to the late 1960s.
This challenging situation arises at a time when the Zerhoun Mountain region boasts significant natural, tourism, and human resources. However, it continues to experience marginalization, characterized by limited job opportunities, particularly among the youth, and a lack of genuine valorization of its potential. This scenario persists despite royal directives advocating for the development of rural areas and promoting spatial justice.
Residents hope that local authorities will extend the same level of attention to Beni Ammar as has been afforded to other regions that have benefited from development initiatives.
