Tragic Overturning of Vehicle in Fez Region Leads to Death and Multiple Injuries
A devastating incident occurred early Saturday morning, May 23, 2026, when a utility vehicle transporting agricultural workers collided with an electrical pole in the vicinity of Douar Al-Skhinat, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sidi Ahrazem municipality. This tragic accident resulted in the death of one individual and left 17 others injured, including four women, with varying degrees of injuries. The accident took place around 6 a.m. on National Road No. 6.
According to eyewitness accounts provided to "Telquel Arabic," the mishap involved a Mitsubishi pickup truck that struck an electrical pole, causing the vehicle to overturn. The collision led to ten minor injuries and seven serious injuries, along with the fatality. Authorities suggested that excessive speed and disregard for traffic signs may have contributed to this unfortunate event.
The driver, who was reportedly en route from Fez to a farming estate in the Ras Tabouda region of the Sefrou province, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the electrical pole located on the right side of the road in the direction of travel.
In response to the incident, local authorities and members of the Royal Gendarmerie from the Sidi Ahrazem center deployed four ambulances from civil protection services to transport the injured to Hassan II University Hospital in Fez. Meanwhile, the deceased was transferred to the morgue at the regional hospital in Al-Ghasani.
Furthermore, the Royal Gendarmerie has initiated a preliminary investigation, overseen by the competent public prosecutor's office, to determine the circumstances and details surrounding the accident. They await the results of medical reports concerning the injured to continue their inquiries and uncover the true causes behind this tragic incident.
