Enhancing Moroccan Diaspora Contributions to National Development
The second session of the Economic Forum for Moroccans Abroad kicked off today in Marrakech, themed "Investment of Moroccans Abroad and Innovation." This significant event has drawn participation from government officials, investors, entrepreneurs, and Moroccan experts both within the Kingdom and abroad, aiming to strengthen the role of the Moroccan diaspora in the nation’s economic development.
This forum serves as a vital platform for dialogue and the exchange of experiences regarding how to mobilize the skills of Moroccans living abroad and encourage their investments in Morocco. It emphasizes the importance of valuing the human capital and international expertise accumulated by the Moroccan community across various critical sectors, particularly in technology, finance, entrepreneurship, and future industries.
Government Initiatives to Facilitate Investment from the Diaspora
In his speech at the event, Karim Zidan, the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Public Policy Evaluation, highlighted that the Moroccan diaspora has become a formidable economic force and a genuine driver of innovation and change, thanks to their high-level skills, international networks, and professional experiences gained in competitive global environments. The minister further elaborated that under royal directives, the government is committed to placing the Moroccan diaspora at the heart of the Kingdom's development project. This includes streamlining administrative procedures, improving the business climate, and reducing the timelines for processing investment applications. Such measures aim to enhance the confidence of diaspora investors and encourage them to launch productive projects in Morocco.
Ismail Lamghari, the Secretary General of the Sector for Moroccans Living Abroad, noted that the forum has become an annual event that brings together Moroccan talents residing abroad with various economic and institutional stakeholders. He confirmed that the sector has launched several programs and initiatives aimed at strengthening the connection between the diaspora and their homeland, including programs targeted at Moroccan youth abroad and a summer university.
Furthermore, he pointed out that Morocco is currently experiencing significant developmental momentum and strategic projects, especially in preparation for hosting the 2030 World Cup, which opens vast opportunities for Moroccans abroad to contribute to investment and development projects within the Kingdom.
Amine Saad, President of the "Moroccan Diaspora Awards" Foundation, also emphasized that this session's topic reflects a collective ambition to transform the vast potential of the Moroccan diaspora into tangible projects and innovative investments that support the national economy and create added value. He added that many Moroccan talents abroad now hold leadership positions in strategic global sectors, stressing the necessity to mobilize and better structure these energies to enhance collaboration between public and private actors and stimulate regional innovation and investment.
The forum will continue with three main sessions discussing topics related to productive investment and innovation, mechanisms for mobilizing the savings of Moroccans living abroad, and the role of the Moroccan diaspora in stimulating regional development and supporting economic projects in Morocco.
