Marrakech Hosts the 26th Edition of Caftan Week Celebrating Moroccan Heritage

Marrakech Celebrates Moroccan Culture with Caftan Week

From May 7 to May 10, Marrakech will host the 26th edition of "Caftan Week," themed "The Spirit of the Atlas." This event is a celebration of the Moroccan caftan, a significant symbol of national cultural identity, while simultaneously exploring innovative design approaches. The timing of this year's event is particularly special, as it follows the recent inclusion of the Moroccan caftan on UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which adds an extra layer of significance to the festivities and enhances the celebration of this national treasure.

During a press conference held to unveil the details of this year's event, Ishraq Mabsit, the director of the magazine "Women of Morocco" and the organizer of the event, emphasized that this edition aims to honor the regions of the Atlas Mountains, given their rich traditions and artisanal skills that have significantly shaped the aesthetic identity of the Moroccan caftan. Mabsit stated that the theme "The Spirit of the Atlas" reflects the organizers' desire to continue exploring the cultural diversity of Morocco, following last year's focus on the Moroccan Sahara. The program will feature fashion shows, exhibitions, professional meetings, and "masterclass" workshops.

Innovative Designs and Celebrating Tradition

Over the years, "Caftan Week" has evolved into a prominent platform for celebrating traditional Moroccan attire while providing opportunities for a new generation of designers to reinterpret the caftan through a modern lens inspired by Moroccan authenticity. In this context, Anas Yassine, the artistic director of "Caftan Week 2026," revealed that the main show of this edition will feature scenography inspired by the Moroccan Atlas, aiming to create a visual experience that blends fashion, craftsmanship, and artistic creativity. Yassine noted that the collections presented will offer multiple interpretations of the theme "The Spirit of the Atlas," engaging in a dialogue between textile heritage, artisanal skills, and stylistic innovation, with the participation of 13 Moroccan designers this year.

The event's program includes exhibitions dedicated to traditional crafts from the Atlas regions, training workshops, professional meetings, and a special showcase for young talents, culminating in a grand closing show that promises to be a highlight of the festivities.
