Tourist Rescued After Hiking Accident on Casablanca Volcano

Rescue Operation Following Hiking Injuries

A 27-year-old Chilean tourist was successfully rescued after sustaining injuries while hiking on the Casablanca Volcano, located in the Los Lagos Region. The incident occurred around noon when personnel from the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf) alerted the Pajaritos Police Station about the young man’s condition. Reports indicate that he suffered an ankle injury along a well-known trail, rendering him unable to descend on his own.

The rescue team, led by the head of the police station and accompanied by a specialist, arrived at the scene at approximately 3:30 PM. Upon their arrival, they found the injured tourist conscious and in the company of two friends. In addition to the ankle injury, the young man also exhibited injuries to his hip and left ribs, necessitating immobilization prior to evacuation.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Diego Gajardo from the Osorno Prefecture, the police were able to locate the young man and coordinate an aerial extraction. "After making the necessary arrangements, we managed to secure a helicopter, which subsequently extracted the young man and transported him to the Puerto Montt Hospital," he stated. Despite his injuries, the tourist is reported to be in stable health and is currently under observation at the medical facility.
