The Dignity Summit: A Global Dialogue on Human Dignity
Fes, the spiritual capital of Morocco, has recently transformed into an international platform for discussions about the future of relationships between nations and cultures through the hosting of the "Dignity Summit 2026." This summit aims to establish a new global vision that places human dignity at the heart of international dialogue and cooperation while also serving as a proactive measure against conflicts. Organized by the Global Association for Culture and Heritage, the summit’s theme, "Dialogue of Civilizations at the Core of Human Dignity: Unleashing the Mobilizing Power of Human Dignity," was designed to reinforce Morocco's growing role on the international stage as a beacon of tolerance, coexistence, and cultural interaction. This is especially significant under the esteemed leadership of the Moroccan monarchy, which has made dialogue and openness fundamental tenets of the nation’s cultural and civilizational policies.
Participants, including former heads of state, diplomats, and international experts, emphasized that human dignity has evolved beyond a mere ethical value or theoretical principle; it has become a pressing necessity for addressing global challenges associated with conflicts, clashing identities, climate change, and developmental disparities. They called for the adoption of what they term "diplomacy of dignity" as a new entry point for international governance. The speakers applauded the continuous calls for tolerance, coexistence, and respect for cultural and religious pluralism articulated in royal speeches and messages, viewing them as a global reference point for enhancing dialogue between civilizations and cementing values of mutual respect and understanding among peoples.
In this context, Mohamed Al-Araj, the former Minister of Culture, noted that Fes's selection as the host city for this summit was not arbitrary, given its rich cultural, spiritual, and scholarly symbolism, which has historically made it a meeting point for cultures, an incubator for ideas, and a promoter of knowledge and tolerance. He added that the transformations currently taking place in the world, coupled with the accompanying political and ideological conflicts, render the Moroccan model of coexistence and dialogue increasingly relevant on the global stage. Additionally, Luc Fouchon, President of the World Water Council, highlighted the intrinsic link between human dignity and the right to access water, emphasizing that this vital resource holds a spiritual significance across various cultures.
