Enhancing Air Transportation Collaboration
On April 17, 2026, Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Guir, engaged in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Liberia and Nigeria during the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026) held in Marrakech. The discussions aimed at reinforcing collaborative efforts in the air transport sector, focusing particularly on the development of civil aviation and fostering bilateral partnerships.
During the meeting with Liberian Assistant Minister of Transport for Administration and Insurance, Archibald Aban, Guir exchanged insights on ways to enhance cooperation in the transport sector. The dialogue specifically addressed mechanisms to bolster air connectivity between Morocco and Liberia, emphasizing the importance of coordination in regulatory practices, safety, and security in aviation. Additionally, the talks explored opportunities for collaboration in training human resources and sharing technical expertise.
Furthermore, Guir held a separate meeting with Festus Kiamu, the Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Space Development. This discussion revolved around strengthening air transport links between Morocco and Nigeria, intensifying cooperation in civil aviation safety and security, and exchanging aviation expertise. As a result of these fruitful discussions, two cooperation agreements were signed with both Liberia and Nigeria in the domain of air transport, which aim to establish a framework for enhancing collaboration in air services, thereby facilitating air traffic, encouraging investments, and promoting economic and commercial exchanges.
These agreements reflect Morocco's commitment to establishing effective and sustainable cooperation in civil aviation, built on the exchange of expertise and the enhancement of technical and institutional capacities, aligning with international best practices. They also showcase Morocco's dynamic approach to strengthening its ties with African partners, reinforcing its role as a pivotal player in regional air transport.
The fifth edition of the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and is held under the auspices of King Mohammed VI until April 16, 2026, themed "Regional Solutions, Global Benefits."
