Spanish Football President Calls for Coordination in World Cup 2030 Preparation

Spanish Football Federation President Emphasizes the Need for Coordination in World Cup Planning

Rafael Lozano, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, has urged the Spanish government to actively engage in the preparations for the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Morocco and Portugal. He described this opportunity as "unmissable," highlighting Spain's capability to host such a prestigious event. Speaking at a forum organized by Atlético Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium, Lozano noted that Spain's aspirations have been met with inquiries from the European Union regarding the nation’s sudden enthusiasm for hosting major tournaments, contrasting their previous reluctance.

Lozano detailed an initial plan that envisions the championship being held across 20 stadiums, with 11 located in Spain, 6 in Morocco, and 3 in Portugal. He mentioned that proposals for hosting the tournament in Málaga and La Coruña have been withdrawn, leaving only two viable options: Valencia and Vigo. The federation has requested FIFA to consider these cities as potential venues, which are part of a larger investment strategy aimed at modernizing Spain’s football infrastructure, projected to reach approximately €2.5 billion.

He further articulated that while these stadiums will primarily serve the World Cup, they will also play a crucial role in Spain's La Liga in the future, facilitating the country’s return to the forefront of modern football nations. Lozano concluded with a call to action for the Spanish government to take the initiative in organizing such a significant event, pointing out that in Morocco, there is a single individual responsible for organization, whereas in Spain, a multitude of stakeholders are involved, necessitating effective coordination. He expressed hope that by September, all parties will work diligently towards achieving this ambitious goal.
