Significant Progress on Morocco's Longest Bridge in Laâyoune

Laâyoune's Ambitious Bridge Project Nears Completion

The construction of Morocco's longest bridge, spanning 1,650 meters over the Sakia El Hamra Wadi in Laâyoune, is making remarkable strides, now standing at 43% completion. This monumental infrastructure project, with a total investment of approximately 1.3 billion dirhams, is set to enhance traffic flow and bolster road safety in the region. According to the Ministry of Equipment and Water, construction commenced on July 28, 2024, and is expected to conclude in 2027.

The bridge will not only facilitate smoother transportation but is also strategically located near burgeoning economic and industrial zones, thus enhancing accessibility for road users. The design incorporates advanced seismic and environmental standards, ensuring resilience against earthquakes and floods. M’barak Fancha, the project director, highlighted the integration of modern rainwater drainage technologies, inspired by existing structures that have proven effective during heavy rains.

Work continues around the clock, employing over 600 workers, engineers, and technicians, with stringent safety measures in place. The project aims to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Laâyoune, which has seen a steady rise in vehicle numbers. With its aesthetic and technical features, the bridge is poised to be a landmark in the region, representing a commitment to sustainable development and infrastructure improvement.
