Major Drug Operations in Morocco Result in Large Hashish Seizures
On April 6, 2026, Moroccan security forces executed a series of operations that culminated in the seizure of over one ton of hashish across key cities including Tangier, Fes, and Casablanca. These operations were coordinated by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The first significant operation took place in Fes, where security personnel intercepted a utility vehicle at the city's entrance. The driver was apprehended, and his son was later arrested, leading to the discovery of 265 kilograms of hashish intended for international trafficking.
In a subsequent operation near Casablanca, authorities intercepted another utility vehicle at the Bouskoura toll plaza. This vehicle, driven by an employee of an ambulance service, was found to be transporting 137 kilograms of hashish along with two passengers. This incident raised concerns regarding the involvement of individuals in legitimate occupations in drug trafficking activities.
The most substantial haul occurred at the Tangier Med port, where police and customs officials seized a cargo truck carrying 610 kilograms of hashish. The drugs were cleverly concealed within specially modified compartments of the truck, which was preparing to board a ferry destined for a European port. This particular case underscores the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers to smuggle drugs internationally.
In total, six suspects have been arrested in connection with these operations and are currently held in provisional detention as investigations continue. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify any local and international accomplices involved in these criminal activities, emphasizing their commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks.
