On June 19-20, 2026, Saqr Ghobash, the President of the Federal National Council, is set to lead a delegation at the fourth edition of the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region. This significant event will take place at the Conference Palace in Marrakech, Morocco, under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, and is organized in collaboration with the Moroccan House of Councillors and the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank, alongside the International Monetary Fund.
The UAE delegation includes notable members such as Saeed Al-Abadi, Aisha Laitim, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mansouri, Salem Al-Amri, Hashima Al-Afari, and Sultan Al-Zaabi, as well as Tarek Al-Marzouqi, the Assistant Secretary-General for Council Affairs. The forum aims to enhance parliamentary dialogue on economic and developmental issues of mutual interest, exploring ways to support economic and trade integration among Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf countries while investigating opportunities for cooperation with the African continent.
The forum will commence with a high-level opening session featuring the participation of parliamentary leaders and regional as well as international parliamentary unions, alongside various ministers, officials, experts, and representatives from international financial institutions. The agenda will cover several pivotal sessions, addressing global challenges to economic integration, free trade, public debt, and stimulating investment in artificial intelligence. Additionally, the forum will discuss establishing a Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf hub for artificial intelligence and a dedicated session for Africa focusing on the African Continental Free Trade Area and connecting Euro-African value chains towards a cohesive space for joint production, investment, and economic resilience.
Moreover, the discussions will emphasize creating job opportunities through the blue economy and the role of small and medium enterprises and startups as engines for innovation and youth employment, along with addressing the impacts of climate change on food security. The forum is also expected to witness the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding, notably between the Moroccan House of Councillors and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as well as a memorandum between the African Senate Assembly and the Mediterranean Parliament aimed at fostering Euro-Mediterranean-African parliamentary cooperation.
