Strengthening Strategic Partnerships in Transportation
The collaboration between Russia and Morocco is witnessing a significant enhancement as both nations strive to further develop their strategic partnership, particularly in the transportation sector. Recently, both countries took a monumental step by signing two vital agreements aimed at modernizing and facilitating exchanges between Moscow and Rabat. This development was officially announced through a press release from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 6, 2026.
The first agreement is an intergovernmental accord focused on international road transport. This agreement lays a robust foundation for the development of freight and passenger transportation links between the two countries. The second document is a protocol amending the bilateral air transport agreement, which notably updates the provisions related to dispute resolution in accordance with standards set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Signatures on these crucial documents were provided by A. Kayouh, the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Logistics, and his Russian counterpart A.S. Nikitine. Both officials expressed a strong desire to expand cooperation into the railway sector, an area where Moscow is keen to involve Rabat in its training and development projects.
In this context, Russia has invited Morocco to join the "Russian-African University Transportation Network," a project that emerged from the second Russia-Africa Summit held in 2023 in Saint Petersburg. This initiative aims to create a common educational space between Russia and African nations, especially in the fields of transport and logistics.
The participation of Morocco in the First International Forum on Transport and Logistics in Saint Petersburg is particularly symbolic, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the deep strategic partnership signed between the two nations. This partnership is one that Moscow and Rabat are clearly committed to strengthening, as they aim to diversify their areas of cooperation and open new avenues in vital sectors such as mobility and infrastructure.
