Royal Air Maroc Temporarily Suspends Flights Amid Rising Operational Costs

Royal Air Maroc Announces Temporary Flight Suspensions

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has officially announced the temporary suspension of multiple flight routes, a decision that arises in the wake of increasing operational costs that are affecting the entire global aviation industry. In a recent statement, the national airline elaborated on how these exceptional cost hikes are prompting several airlines to reassess their flight schedules and temporarily adjust their capacities. The data provided by Aeroroutes highlights more detailed adjustments in flight routes towards Europe, including both temporary cancellations and frequency reductions.

As part of this strategy, RAM has identified several routes for temporary suspension. Departures from Casablanca will see affected routes to Bangui, Brazzaville, Kinshasa, Douala, Yaoundé, and Libreville. The airline has also cited numerous European connections, including flights from Tangier to Malaga, Tangier to Barcelona, Marrakech to Lyon, Marrakech to Bordeaux, Marrakech to Marseille, and Marrakech to Brussels. In its commitment to customer service, Royal Air Maroc assured that it will implement necessary measures to assist customers impacted by these suspensions and to mitigate any resulting inconveniences. The airline also stated that it will monitor the international situation closely to gradually reinstate these routes when operational and economic conditions permit.

Detailed Adjustments to European Flight Routes

The programming data released by Aeroroutes provides additional insights into the planned adjustments for European routes during the peak summer season. While some routes from Casablanca are not entirely suspended, they are facing reductions in frequency. For instance, the Casablanca to Catania route will decrease from three to two flights per week between June 24 and September 9, 2026. Similarly, the Casablanca to Montpellier route will be reduced from three to two flights weekly from June 24 to October 24, 2026. The Casablanca to Valencia route will see a reduction from five to four flights weekly starting June 16, while the Casablanca to Venice Marco Polo route will reduce from four to three flights weekly from June 22. Additionally, the Casablanca to Zurich route will see its weekly frequency drop from three to two flights starting July 15.

Aeroroutes has also reported the suspension of bookings on various routes between Marrakech and Europe from July to September 2026. Routes such as Marrakech to Bordeaux, Marrakech to Brussels, Marrakech to Lyon, Marrakech to Marseille, Marrakech to Nantes, and Marrakech to Toulouse will each experience two cancelled flights per week during the summer period. This information serves as a crucial update for travelers planning to fly between these destinations.

One notable point of differentiation pertains to the Tangier routes. The RAM press release includes the Tangier to Malaga and Tangier to Barcelona routes among those suspended temporarily. However, Aeroroutes categorizes these routes as having reduced frequencies. Specifically, the Tangier to Barcelona route will see its frequency drop from two to one flight per week between July 3 and September 9, 2026, while the Tangier to Malaga route will similarly reduce from two to one flight weekly starting July 6 until September 9, 2026. This discrepancy highlights that the two sources of information do not serve the same purpose; the RAM press release reflects the airline's official stance on temporary suspensions, while Aeroroutes details observable adjustments in flight scheduling, including booking closures and frequency reductions.
