Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Uncovers 1,199 Cases of Electrical Fraud

Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Launches Major Crackdown on Electrical Fraud

The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Multiservice Regional Company has initiated an extensive campaign aimed at combating illegal connections and various forms of fraud affecting the networks of potable water, sewage, and electricity. This initiative, which kicks off in June 2026, encompasses the entire operational area of the company. The campaign is designed to bolster efforts against unauthorized access to public networks, ensuring that all operations are executed in close coordination with local authorities, national security services, and the Royal Gendarmerie. Mixed teams will be mobilized to carry out on-site inspections, aiming to detect and eliminate illicit connections.

Initial reports from inspections conducted in early 2026 reveal the alarming extent of this issue. Between January and May 2026, the company reported over 1,199 individual cases of fraud on low-voltage electrical networks. This illegal consumption is estimated to exceed 16.2 million kilowatt-hours and translates into financial losses of more than 26 million dirhams, taxes included. Additionally, 19 cases of water fraud were identified, amounting to about 30,140 cubic meters of water, with a financial impact of over 336,000 dirhams.

Addressing Agricultural Water Usage and Illegal Practices

In tandem with the crackdown on electrical fraud, a special control procedure will be implemented to tackle fraudulent practices related to agricultural irrigation and unauthorized water extraction activities carried out by certain tanker trucks. These trucks have been known to exploit public water supply networks, including fire hydrants and public fountains, illegally. This measure is essential to safeguard available water resources and ensure their use aligns with existing legal and regulatory frameworks.
