Rabat Man Denied Bail After Allegations of Grievous Assault on Woman

A 46-year-old man from Rabat has entered a plea of not guilty following serious charges of causing grievous injuries to a woman during an alleged domestic incident. This troubling event reportedly occurred between 10 PM and 11 PM on July 26 at a residence in Rabat, where the victim sustained significant injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

The prosecution, led by Attorney General lawyer Krista Spiteri Lucas and Inspector Carlos Cordina, has put forth a case against the accused, highlighting the severity of the injuries inflicted upon the victim. In addition to the grave charges of grievous bodily harm, the man faces accusations of also causing slight injuries to the victim and is identified as a recidivist, which adds to the gravity of the situation.

During the proceedings, the prosecution firmly objected to the bail request, emphasizing that the seriousness of the charges warranted a refusal for bail. They raised valid concerns regarding the proximity of the accused and the victim, both residing in Rabat, suggesting that there could be a risk of the accused attempting to contact or exert influence over the victim prior to her testifying in court. The court ultimately sided with the prosecution's arguments, denying the bail request and issuing a protection order aimed at safeguarding the victim from further potential harm.
