Rabat and Lusaka Strengthen Strategic Partnership with Strong Political and Economic Ties

In a climate characterized by the enhancement of African alliances and the redefinition of regional balances, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Zambia are showcasing an increasingly aligned vision. On Friday, in Rabat, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, welcomed Mr. Leslie Mbula, the special envoy of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, who brought a message addressed to King Mohammed VI.

Following this meeting, Mr. Mbula publicly commended the "excellence" of the bilateral relations between Rabat and Lusaka, describing them as "cordial and mutually beneficial," founded on shared values of peace, solidarity, and South-South cooperation. The Zambian envoy expressed admiration for the profound transformations taking place in Morocco, highlighting the country's "stability, prosperity, and remarkable socio-economic advancements" driven by the leadership of the Moroccan monarch. Special mention was made of the outcomes from the New Development Model and the Industrial Acceleration Plan, which have positioned Morocco as a leading continental player, particularly in the strategic sectors of automotive and aeronautics.

This visit is not just about affirmations but reflects a forward-looking dynamic. Zambia reiterated its commitment to elevate bilateral cooperation to a higher level, targeting high-value sectors such as digital transformation, innovation, and youth empowerment—areas deemed critical for the future economies of African nations.

Politically, Lusaka's message is clear and unequivocal. Mr. Mbula reiterated his country's "unequivocal" support for Morocco's territorial integrity, including the Moroccan Sahara, a stance that aligns with the growing trend among several African states to support Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces. Additionally, the Zambian envoy did not miss the opportunity to applaud Morocco's achievements in sports, highlighting the "world-class" infrastructure that enhances the country's international profile, especially as Morocco hosts numerous major events and solidifies its status as a continental sports hub.
