PSOE's Alleged Celebration of Morocco's Goal Declared False

Clarifying the Facts Behind the PSOE's Alleged Social Media Post

On June 20, a match between Morocco and Scotland unfolded during the 2026 World Cup, culminating in a narrow victory for Morocco with a score of 1-0. Following the match, rumors circulated regarding a purported social media post by the PSOE celebrating Morocco's goal. Many individuals reached out to us through our WhatsApp verification service, inquiring about the authenticity of this claim. However, after thorough investigation, we can confirm that this assertion is unfounded and indeed false.

The earliest record identified by Newtral.es regarding the alleged screenshot appeared on the morning of June 20. The individual who shared this screenshot claimed, without providing evidence, that they managed to capture the post before it was deleted by the PSOE from their profile. A review of the PSOE’s official X account reveals no posts celebrating Morocco’s goal against Scotland. Furthermore, the WayBack Machine did not archive the PSOE profile on that day, making it impossible to verify if any such message was published and subsequently removed.

Debunking the Screenshot's Authenticity

Additional elements raise significant doubts about the legitimacy of the screenshot in question. Notably, the profile picture displayed in the purported post does not align with the image that the PSOE utilized on June 20. Archived records from that day indicate that the profile picture included the text 'PSOE' over a red background, while the viral image showed a repeated 'PSOE' with no icon, a clear indication of manipulation.

As of the publication of this verification, the PSOE's profile currently reflects the same image it had on June 20, albeit with the red background replaced by the LGBTQ+ flag. Attempts by Newtral.es to obtain clarification from the PSOE press team regarding the alleged celebratory post have so far gone unanswered.

This incident illustrates the importance of verifying information before accepting it as truth. Our methodology involves a rigorous verification process, and based on our findings, we categorize the spread of this misinformation as misleading, as it contains some accurate data but misrepresents essential elements, creating a false impression.
