Nurses in Fes-Meknes Region Intensify Protests Against Health Ministry

Nurses Demand Change in Recruitment Process Amidst Protests

The regional office of the Independent Nurses Union in the Fes-Meknes region has announced a significant escalation in protests against the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. This decision stems from their dissatisfaction with what they describe as "irregularities" associated with the preparation for the launch of the territorial health group in the region, alongside concerns regarding the allocation of positions for the nursing and health technician recruitment exam scheduled for 2026.

The union's urgent statement highlights that the announced positions do not reflect the actual needs of healthcare institutions in the region. They argue that these positions are inconsistent with the regional and provincial reports previously prepared and submitted to the Human Resources Directorate. This misalignment undermines the efforts of committees tasked with assessing shortages and managing transfers within the health sector.

Among the union's key observations is the reliance on what they term a "unilateral approach" in handling the matter, as well as the inadequacy of the financial positions allocated to the region. They also express concern over the potential negative impact these decisions could have on the mobility of nurses and health technicians. Furthermore, they criticize what they perceive as superficial dialogues that fail to meet the requirements of institutional consultation.

The union has called for a revision of the recruitment announcement to align it with the real needs of health institutions and the established reports at both regional and provincial levels. They stress the necessity of implementing a fair distribution of positions that takes into account the identified shortages across various healthcare facilities.

In line with their escalatory measures, the union is urging all its members and affiliates in the Fes-Meknes region to participate in a protest outside the Human Resources Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Rabat on Friday, June 26, 2026, starting at noon. This demonstration aims to demand a review of the decisions made and to address the concerns of the nursing workforce.
