Strengthening Bilateral Relations between Morocco and the DRC
On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, the Deputy Minister attached to the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Mbadu Phanzu conveyed a significant message from President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Following the meeting, the DRC envoy expressed optimism about the enduring cooperation and bilateral ties between Morocco and the DRC, which have been fostered through a long history of friendship and collaboration.
During the discussions, Mbadu Phanzu underlined that his visit served a dual purpose. Not only was he delivering the message from President Tshisekedi, but he was also promoting the DRC's candidacy for the position of Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). This candidacy is particularly important as it emphasizes the DRC's commitment to strengthening its role within this international organization.
Promoting Solidarity and Inclusiveness
Accompanying Mbadu Phanzu was Juliana Amato Lumumba, the DRC’s nominee for the Secretary-General position at the OIF and a member of the visiting delegation. She spoke passionately about the strong bonds of solidarity and friendship that characterize the relationship between the two nations. Lumumba made a poignant reference to her father, Patrice Émery Lumumba, who was honored by the late King Mohammed V, thereby highlighting the historical connections that enhance their ongoing diplomatic relations.
Moreover, Lumumba pointed out the shared perspectives between Morocco and the DRC regarding essential issues such as solidarity, unity, inclusiveness, and respect for sovereignty. She articulated a vision for a "Francophonie of the people, with the people, and for the people," advocating for a future that prioritizes the voices and needs of citizens within the Francophone community. This sentiment reflects the growing commitment to enhancing collaborative efforts that can lead to mutual growth and development.
