In 2025, Morocco emerged as a powerhouse in Spain's cucumber import market, accounting for nearly three-quarters of the total imports of this popular vegetable. According to recent data released by the agricultural market expert Hortoinfo, the volume of cucumbers imported by Spain reached an impressive 25,440 tons, valued at approximately 30.9 million euros. This figure marks a staggering increase of over 248% in volume and more than 340% in value since 2016, as highlighted by statistics from Estacom, the statistical service of Spain's tax agency and ICEX. Specifically, Moroccan suppliers delivered around 18,240 tons of cucumbers to Spain in 2025, which translates to 71.7% of the country's total cucumber imports, solidifying Morocco's position as the leading external supplier.
Significant Growth in Imports and Market Dynamics
The surge in Moroccan cucumber shipments to Spain—an increase of 215.6% over the past decade—underscores the growing importance of Morocco in the European agricultural market. In terms of monetary value, imports of Moroccan cucumbers reached 21.1 million euros, reflecting a remarkable increase of approximately 313.7% since 2016. The average import price for these cucumbers was recorded at 1.16 euros per kilogram, demonstrating both a strong demand and competitive pricing in the market. Following Morocco, Germany ranked as the second-largest supplier to Spain, accounting for 11.1% of total imports with 2,820 tons valued at 4.29 million euros, priced at an average of 1.52 euros per kilogram. Meanwhile, Portugal contributed 2,319 tons or 9.1% of total imports, worth 2.49 million euros, with an average price of 1.07 euros per kilogram.
