Morocco's Agricultural Exports Surge to Over 86 Billion Dirhams in 2025

Significant Growth in Agro-Food Exports

In 2025, the agro-food exports of Morocco reached an impressive 86.2 billion dirhams, marking a remarkable 38% increase compared to 2020. This surge has solidified the agro-food sector as the third-largest source of foreign currency for the Kingdom, according to data presented during a recent meeting of the Morocco Foodex Board of Directors. The Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests revealed that this upward trend reflects the growing strength of Moroccan agricultural products in international markets.

During the Morocco Foodex Board meeting, chaired by Agriculture Minister Ahmed El Bouari, it was emphasized that agricultural exports now account for approximately 18% of the country’s total exports. In terms of volume, Morocco exported an impressive 4.7 million tons of agricultural products in 2025, which is a 9% increase compared to 2020 and a striking 49% rise since 2015. This positive trend showcases the evolution of Moroccan export chains and their competitiveness on the global stage.

Challenges and Strategic Developments

Despite the overall growth, the citrus export campaign for 2025-2026 faced challenges due to exceptional climatic conditions that impacted production for international markets. Citrus exports dropped to 553,000 tons, down from 626,000 tons in the previous campaign, representing a 12% decline. Additionally, there was a noticeable decrease in the exports of fruits and vegetables, particularly tomatoes. During the meeting, Minister El Bouari highlighted the strategic role of Morocco Foodex in advancing agricultural, agro-food, and fisheries exports, as well as enhancing the competitiveness of Moroccan products in international markets.

El Bouari also acknowledged the institution's efforts in technical control, strategic intelligence, market monitoring, and supporting economic operators to ensure compliance with international standards. He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between domestic markets and export markets while advocating for the continued increase in export volumes, diversification of commercial destinations, and support for new exporters, particularly young entrepreneurs and startups, in line with the Green Generation 2020-2030 strategy.

Additionally, Ghita El Ghorfi, the Director General of Morocco Foodex, presented the technical and financial report for 2025, along with the budget execution progress for the first half of 2026 and recent trends in Moroccan agro-food exports.
