Morocco Reduces Burned Areas Despite Increasing Wildfires Thanks to Canadair Fleet

Morocco's Effective Measures Against Forest Fires

In recent years, Morocco has experienced an increase in the number of forest fires, yet official data indicates a significant reduction in the areas affected by these blazes. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to the enhancement of monitoring systems and rapid intervention strategies. According to the National Agency of Water and Forests (ANEF), Morocco recorded approximately 310 forest fires between the beginning of 2026 and July 20, devastating around 1,850 hectares of land, which included 832 hectares of wooded forest formations and 1,018 hectares of secondary species and herbaceous formations.

Canadair's Role in Fire Control

A crucial factor in Morocco's success in managing these wildfires is its fleet of eight Canadair firefighting aircraft. This fleet contrasts sharply with the limited resources available to other regions, such as Argalia, which only has two Russian-made aircraft at its disposal. The Canadair planes are renowned for their efficiency in battling wildfires, allowing Moroccan authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to fire outbreaks, thereby mitigating the potential devastation fires can cause.
