Morocco Leads Africa in Wealth Growth: A Financial Hub Emerges

For over a decade, Morocco has firmly established a rare path of macroeconomic stability on the African continent. Continuous structural reforms, industrial diversification, and its positioning as a regional financial hub have progressively enhanced its attractiveness to investors. This consistency has earned Morocco increasing recognition in international wealth creation rankings.

On June 4, 2026, the consulting firm Capgemini released the thirtieth edition of its World Wealth Report, which measures the evolution of the population of high-net-worth individuals—defined as those holding more than one million dollars in investable assets—in 27 markets around the world. Morocco stands out as the African country with the fastest growth in 2025, witnessing a remarkable 16.8% increase in its millionaire population.

African Performance Outshines the Middle East

The African continent recorded an overall growth of 4.1% in its wealthy population last year, outperforming the Middle East, where the number of millionaires contracted by 1.4% due to declining oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions. Globally, the total wealth held by high-net-worth individuals reached an impressive $98.3 trillion in 2025, marking the largest annual increase since 2018.

Capgemini attributes this positive momentum in Africa to the rising prices of precious metals, which Morocco—Africa's leading silver producer and a key player in phosphate—has directly benefited from. The report also highlights the expansion of Morocco's financial services sector and the rise in property values, particularly in cities like Casablanca and Marrakech, as contributing factors to this growth.

Marrakech: A Decade of Wealth Growth

These statistics align with findings from the Africa Wealth Report 2025, published last August by Henley & Partners, which had already ranked Morocco as the third African country in terms of resident millionaires, boasting 7,500 individuals. Furthermore, Marrakech was identified as the second city on the continent that experienced the most significant growth in wealthy residents over the past decade, with an astonishing increase of 67%. The next edition of the Africa Wealth Report is expected in the second half of 2026, which will shed light on whether Morocco's trajectory continues to affirm itself over the decade.
