Morocco Draws with Norway Amid Injury Concerns Ahead of World Cup

Morocco and Norway End in Stalemate Ahead of World Cup Showdown

In a closely contested friendly match, Morocco managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Norway, serving as their final preparation before facing Brazil in their World Cup debut on Sunday, June 14, at midnight. The match, however, was marred by the concerning injury of Abde, who had to leave the field before halftime, visibly in pain clutching his right knee. This injury raises significant concerns for Moroccan coach Mohamed Ouahbi, especially pending medical tests that could indicate the potential loss of one of the team's key players. Adding to the team's worries, Mazraoui also experienced physical discomfort during the match.

The North African side made an impressive start, taking the lead within the first ten minutes of the game. Brahim scored the opening goal after receiving a well-timed pass from Abde, who had skillfully maneuvered down the left flank. Brahim controlled the ball expertly within the box and delivered a precise cross-shot that beat Norwegian goalkeeper Nyland in the 8th minute. Just before halftime, the connection between Brahim and Abde nearly extended Morocco's lead to 2-0, but Abde's volley, following another assist from Brahim, went over the crossbar. Throughout the first half, Morocco dominated possession and created most of the chances; however, Norway posed a threat on the counter, with the ever-dangerous Haaland and Sorloth making some notable incursions into the Moroccan defense.

Unfortunately, just before the halftime whistle, the match took a turn for the worse for Morocco with Abde's potential serious injury. After a collision with Chadi Riad during a corner kick, Abde was forced to leave the pitch, raising immediate concerns about his availability for the World Cup.

The second half saw Norway step up their efforts in search of an equalizer. Despite Brahim having a chance to extend Morocco's lead with a shot saved by Nyland, the Norwegians eventually found their footing. In the 76th minute, Odegaard scored the equalizing goal, following a strong play by Bobb along the byline, thus securing a 1-1 draw in what proved to be a valuable test for both teams as they prepare for the World Cup.
