Moroccan Notaries Persist in Strike Action
The National Association of Notaries in Morocco has declared its decision to maintain a complete halt of all notarial services across the country until further notice. This announcement comes as the association reiterates its firm opposition to Law No. 16.22, which governs the profession of notaries. The executive office of the association issued a statement demanding the repeal of this law, arguing that it profoundly undermines previous agreements and disregards amendments put forth by parliamentary groups, as well as the observations of the National Association of Notaries, recommendations from the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, and the principles outlined in the 2011 Constitution.
Call for Professional Unity and Action
The executive board has placed full responsibility on the government and relevant authorities for the ongoing professional tension and disruption of services for the public. They emphasized that the era of free concessions has ended, asserting that the collective will of the notaries in the kingdom is capable of bringing about the desired change. Moreover, the association has urged its members to remain in a state of heightened alert and preparedness to implement any significant actions necessary for the betterment of the profession, in response to the systematic lack of engagement from the government. They called for complete participation in all forms of protest that will be announced in the future.
