Moroccan Mountaineer Hind Zemmama Sets Her Sights on New Heights Following Historic Denali Summit

Rabat – Hind Zemmama, a trailblazing Moroccan mountaineer, has etched her name in the annals of history by becoming the first Moroccan and African woman to conquer Denali, the highest mountain in North America. This remarkable achievement not only showcases her resilience and determination but also paves the way for future generations of climbers in Morocco and beyond.

In a candid conversation with the Moroccan News Agency (MAP), Zemmama expressed the overwhelming pride and deep emotion she felt upon reaching the imposing 6,190-meter peak in Alaska. She attributed her success to months of meticulous planning and rigorous preparation, underscoring the dedication required to tackle such a formidable challenge.

The expedition to Denali commenced at the end of May, a project that had been in the making for several months as Zemmama eagerly anticipated the climb. She successfully reached the summit on June 9, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious mountaineering career and adding to her impressive list of accomplishments that have positioned her as one of Morocco's leading climbers.

Preparation for the Denali ascent demanded an extensive regimen of both physical and mental training. Zemmama engaged in a variety of workouts, including running, strength-building exercises, and endurance training, all aimed at equipping her to handle the grueling demands of high-altitude climbing.

However, the journey to the summit was fraught with challenges. Zemmama faced freezing temperatures, severe weather conditions, mounting fatigue, and the debilitating effects of extreme altitude. Reflecting on the climb, she noted, "The mountains do not forgive mistakes," emphasizing the unwavering focus and determination necessary to navigate the hurdles encountered along the way.

Upon finally achieving the summit, Zemmama was overwhelmed with a profound sense of relief, pride, and gratitude, describing the experience as extraordinary and affirming that every ounce of hard work had been worthwhile.

This is not Zemmama's first foray into significant mountaineering achievements. In May 2025, she reached the summit of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, and later that year, she successfully ascended Carstensz Pyramid in Indonesia, further elevating Morocco's presence on the global climbing stage.

While she intends to bask in the glory of her recent success before embarking on her next expedition, Zemmama’s journey is far from complete. She is currently pursuing the prestigious “Seven Summits” challenge, which entails climbing the highest peak on each continent. To date, she has successfully tackled six of the seven peaks, including Everest, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua, Elbrus, Carstensz Pyramid, and Denali, with only Mount Vinson in Antarctica left to conquer. Zemmama is determined to achieve this goal and complete her quest to stand atop the highest summits on all seven continents.
