Inspiring Journey of Resilience and Inclusion
As Morocco gears up to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup through the enhancement of its sports and logistical infrastructure, three remarkable Moroccan athletes with disabilities are preparing for an extraordinary challenge that combines both athleticism and humanitarianism. They will traverse a distance of 930 kilometers using handbikes, starting from the vibrant city of Marrakech and concluding in Tangier. This initiative aims to foster awareness of para-sports, instill values of inclusion and equality, and showcase the incredible abilities of athletes with disabilities.
The journey will be undertaken by the trio of champions: Mohamed El Kouchi, Hussein El Fahli, and Mohamed Ait Bah, who will embark on this mission next September. Their route spans twelve stages connecting various Moroccan cities, including Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, and Fez, before they reach their final destination in Tangier. The initiative, branded with the slogan "ROULEZ AVEC NOS CHAMPIONS," blends a sporting challenge with a profound humanitarian message, aiming to promote handbike sports and enhance the visibility of para-sports within Moroccan society.
Marrakech: A Symbolic Starting Point
The choice of Marrakech as the launch point for this initiative carries significant meaning, as it is one of the cities nominated to host matches for the 2030 World Cup. The initial preparations for this project took place at the Jnan Faiza complex, which provided an ideal environment for the athletes to prepare under the guidance of its director, Moulay Youssef Meskine. His support has been integral to the organizational and logistical aspects of the initiative, which seeks to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and encourage their active participation in public life.
Beyond the athletic achievement of covering a long distance on handbikes, the project’s objectives extend to disseminating the culture of para-sports and motivating children and youth with disabilities to engage in sports activities.
