New Leadership for AIEM: Mohammed Smouni Takes the Helm
On April 18, 2026, the Association of Engineers from the Mohammadia School (AIEM) convened its Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, marking a significant moment in its institutional history with the election of a new National Bureau. Mohammed Smouni, a distinguished alumnus from the EMI class of 1987 and currently the Deputy General Director of the National Office of Railways (ONCF), was elected as the new president of the association. This leadership transition is set against the backdrop of AIEM's mission to enhance its governance and extend its influence within the engineering sector.
During his inaugural speech, President Smouni outlined a comprehensive action plan that aims to reinforce the institutional positioning of AIEM. He emphasized the importance of completing the process to obtain public utility recognition, a critical step that will enhance the association's credibility and expand its partnership opportunities. The new leadership is also committed to deploying a more agile and coordinated governance structure that fosters synergy among various components of the association, ultimately leading to improved accountability and performance.
Further, Smouni expressed a desire to invigorate regional clubs and structures by promoting innovation, thematic engagement, and impactful events. He articulated a strong commitment to supporting the Mohammadia School of Engineering (EMI), aspiring to contribute to its prestige and maintain its academic excellence amidst a rapidly evolving environment. Under his leadership, AIEM aims to assert its presence on both national and international stages through high-level conferences and active participation in pivotal development issues.
Another crucial aspect of the new plan involves strengthening ties with the engineering community, ensuring that services are tailored to their needs and that communication is enhanced. Additionally, Smouni highlighted the importance of consolidating the association's resources for sustainability via diversified funding and optimized management practices.
The assembly also served as a platform for the outgoing National Bureau, led by Ms. Nawal SEFRIOUI GHARMILI, to present its moral and financial report. Members of the association acknowledged the accomplishments of the outgoing bureau and extended their gratitude to its members for their dedication and hard work throughout their tenure.
This new chapter for AIEM reaffirms its role as a vital player in the national ecosystem, leveraging the expertise of its members to contribute to the significant economic, technological, and societal transitions facing the country.
