Marrakech Set to Welcome International Parliamentary Forum
From June 19 to 21, 2026, the vibrant city of Marrakech will serve as the backdrop for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Parliamentary Economic Forum. This significant event is expected to attract over 400 parliamentarians, ministers, and representatives from international institutions, all coming together to discuss pressing economic issues and regional cooperation. Among the notable attendees will be Moroccan government officials, including Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, and Younes Sekkouri, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills.
The forum, often referred to as a 'mini-Davos' for Morocco, is organized in collaboration with the Moroccan Chamber of Counselors and marks a first-time partnership with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Over the course of three days, delegates will engage in in-depth discussions addressing vital topics such as economic integration, artificial intelligence, energy transition, and sustainable job creation.
Fostering Dialogue and Regional Cooperation
Beyond economic discussions, this forum will also serve as a platform for political dialogue and parliamentary diplomacy. Key regional and international issues will be addressed, with the attendance of the presidents of both chambers of the Moroccan Parliament, alongside numerous political figures and institutional representatives. A significant agenda item will be reaffirming Morocco's stance on the Sahara issue, emphasizing the country's autonomy initiative, which has been recognized as a credible solution by the United Nations Security Council.
Organized by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (APM), this gathering includes 34 member parliaments from the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. It aims to foster legislative experience sharing, strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, and encourage coordinated responses to common challenges shaping the future of the region. Topics of discussion will range from conflict prevention and counter-terrorism efforts to climate transition, migration, education, and human rights.
