Marrakech Menara Airport Achieves Significant Improvements in Passenger Transit Times

Marrakech Menara Airport Sees Enhanced Efficiency in Passenger Processing

Marrakech Menara Airport has reported a notable advancement in the efficiency of passenger transit times, establishing itself among the best-performing airports in Morocco. This improvement is part of a broader trend witnessed across various airports in the country during the first half of 2026. The enhancements are attributed to effective measures implemented to reduce waiting times at border control points, coinciding with a continuous rise in air traffic.

According to the Airports of Morocco authority, the average transit time at passport control for departing travelers nationwide has decreased to 3.6 minutes, reflecting a 24% improvement compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, the average arrival transit time has also improved to 9.6 minutes, marking a 22% reduction.

At Marrakech Menara Airport specifically, the average arrival transit time now stands at 6.86 minutes, which is a 16% decrease from the first half of the previous year. The average departure transit time has stabilized at 5.09 minutes, showing a significant improvement of 22.5%. This performance underscores the capacity of Morocco's second-largest airport to manage the growing passenger traffic while maintaining smooth service delivery.

Furthermore, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, Morocco's largest air hub, achieved the best results nationwide, with the average arrival transit time dropping to 5.4 minutes, down from approximately 12 minutes in the same timeframe last year, representing a remarkable 54% improvement. The departure transit time at this airport also saw a historic decline, falling from 7.5 minutes to just 2.25 minutes, which is a 70% improvement, indicating a significant enhancement in the efficiency of monitoring operations and services provided to passengers.

These positive trends are reflected in several other airports as well. For instance, the average arrival transit time at Tangier Airport has decreased to 11.93 minutes, achieving a 52% improvement, while Fes Airport has recorded one of the best departure times, averaging just 1.53 minutes. Agadir Airport has also maintained an arrival transit time of under ten minutes.

The Airports of Morocco authority asserts that these results are indicative of the ongoing enhancement of the operational performance across national airports. This progress is a direct result of coordinated efforts among various stakeholders in the air transport system, particularly the General Directorate of National Security and the Ministry of Interior, which have continued to bolster border control measures while ensuring the highest levels of security and safety.

These statistics not only reflect the advancements made in improving the passenger experience but are also aligned with the objectives of the "Airports 2030" strategy, which aims to develop airport infrastructure and services. This initiative seeks to establish Moroccan airports as regional hubs recognized for operational efficiency and quality of service, thereby supporting the dynamic growth of the air transport sector and enhancing the country's competitiveness as a tourist and investment destination.
