Marrakech Hosts National Conference to Evaluate Innovative Early Childhood Education Project

Marrakech to Host a National Conference for Early Childhood Education Assessment

A press release from the Development Center of the Tensift Region (CDRT), a public benefit association, announced that on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, a high-level conference titled "Early Childhood Education in Morocco: Between National Ambition and Rural Reality" will take place at the University of Cadi Ayyad in Marrakech. This event aims to present and assess the outcomes of the innovative pilot project titled "Towards Modern and Quality Early Childhood Education for Children in Vulnerable Areas of the Marrakech Region," which CDRT has been implementing since 2023 with the support of the International Cooperation Directorate of the Principality of Monaco, in partnership with the Regional Academy for Education and Training of the Marrakech-Safi region, through the provincial directorates of Youssoufia and Al Haouz, along with the Higher School of Teachers at the University of Cadi Ayyad.

The project has enabled sustainable annual benefits for around 300 children across ten early childhood education classrooms in the Al Haouz and Youssoufia provinces since its inception in 2023. Interventions included the provision of modern educational tools, teaching aids, educational games, books, and school supplies, as well as the development of outdoor play areas, organizing recreational activities, and exploratory trips for the children.

Additionally, the project included ongoing training sessions for educators to enhance their pedagogical skills. It also launched awareness and psychological support programs for parents, alongside ensuring regular health monitoring for the children.

As the project approaches its final phase, CDRT has entrusted the comprehensive final evaluation to an independent expert office. The conference will serve as a platform to showcase the key results achieved and reflect on the lessons learned from this exemplary experience aimed at reducing regional disparities and improving learning environments in rural areas.

This gathering, which will bring together academic actors, field practitioners, international partners, institutional stakeholders, and decision-makers, aims to pave the way for new opportunities to develop early childhood education in rural areas, transitioning from a quantitative expansion approach to a model focused on comprehensive quality, sustainability, and equal opportunities.

Since 2016, the Development Center of the Tensift Region has prioritized the promotion of early childhood education as a fundamental lever for human development. This project aligns with national objectives and the strategic vision for reforming the education and training system in the Kingdom, aiming to create a successful and scalable educational model across various regions of Morocco.

The conference proceedings are set to commence on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, starting at 9 AM at the University of Cadi Ayyad's Language and Culture Building on Allal El Fassi Street in Marrakech.
