Mali Reiterates Support for Morocco's Territorial Integrity and Autonomy Initiative

The Republic of Mali has once again affirmed its unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, including its sovereignty over the Sahara region. This endorsement was articulated during the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the fourth session of the Moroccan-Malian Joint Cooperation Committee, which took place in Bamako, under the co-presidency of Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and Mali's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop.

In the joint statement, Mali reiterated its commitment to the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General and his personal envoy, as well as its backing for Morocco's autonomy initiative, which is deemed the only serious and realistic solution to this regional dispute. This stance aligns with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, reinforcing Mali's support for Morocco's sovereignty initiatives.

This reaffirmation of support follows the declaration made by the Malian government on April 10, 2026, in which Mali officially withdrew its recognition of the alleged separatist entity. The fourth session of the Joint Cooperation Committee between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali was held from July 21 to July 24 in the capital city of Bamako.
