Legal Developments in the Municipal Warehouse Case
The primary criminal court responsible for financial crimes at the Appeals Court in Fes has postponed its review of a case involving a network suspected of exploiting the municipal warehouse in the city of Oujda until May 5th. This delay is intended to allow for the completion of arguments after the details of the case and the seized items were discussed.
This case involves 19 defendants, including officials and employees, who are facing serious charges such as embezzlement and misappropriation of both public and private funds entrusted to them. Other accusations include theft of movable property in connection with their duties, bribery, forgery of official documents, and their use, in addition to participation in these offenses, each according to their alleged involvement.
Background and Arrests in the Case
The investigation into this matter began following an operation by elements of the regional judicial police in Fes, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance. This operation led to the dismantling of a network believed to have been operating within the municipal warehouse, seizing vehicles, motorcycles, and other confiscated equipment, which were then disposed of through illegal means.
Available information indicates that the suspects employed various methods, including falsifying license plates and dismantling vehicles to sell them as spare parts in junk markets, in an operation described as organized and systemic.
The arrests included the head of the municipal warehouse and three other employees, along with several other accomplices. Searches conducted in connection with the case resulted in the seizure of ten vehicles, 17 motorcycles, along with 38 dismantled car chassis, as well as quantities of spare parts and electronic devices.
Additionally, 12 defendants have been placed under provisional detention, while judicial investigations continue under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office, aiming to uncover any further extensions of this network, which is suspected of having turned a public facility into a space for illegal exploitation and forgery.
