Major Drug Bust Near Marrakech Involving a Young Gendarme

Significant Drug Interception by Royal Gendarmerie

In a notable operation near Marrakech, units of the Royal Gendarmerie successfully thwarted a large-scale drug trafficking attempt. During a routine check at a highway toll booth, officers from the motorcycle unit confiscated approximately 80 kilograms of hashish. What makes this case particularly alarming is that the suspect is a young gendarme stationed at the cavalry training center in Benslimane.

According to the local newspaper Al Akhbar, the young suspect was promptly dismissed from the Royal Gendarmerie following the discovery of the drugs. Authorities have initiated an investigation under the supervision of the Attorney General at the Marrakech Court of Appeal. The primary objective of this investigation is to identify potential masterminds involved in drug cultivation in the northern regions and to unveil the logistical networks responsible for transporting these narcotics to the Souss area.

Disciplined Response and Ongoing Investigations

Just recently, another gendarme from Tangier was arrested during a similar smuggling attempt and subsequently sentenced to five years in prison. Within the security forces, officials emphasize that such incidents are viewed as isolated occurrences within a disciplined unit. The event highlights the ongoing challenges related to monitoring trade routes between the northern and southern parts of the country. The consistent legal actions taken against such offenses are crucial for maintaining institutional integrity and deterring similar activities within their ranks.
