Lidl's Innovative Recycling Program Continues
Lidl Polska has announced an extension of its popular initiative allowing customers to return non-deposit aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Initially set to conclude on June 30, 2026, the program will now run until September 30, 2026. This decision comes in response to the high interest and positive feedback from consumers, reflecting Lidl's commitment to sustainable practices and customer satisfaction.
The program enables customers to use reverse vending machines located in Lidl stores to return eligible containers, receiving a refund of 10 groszy for each item returned. This initiative has been particularly popular among shoppers, as it not only promotes recycling but also provides an incentive for customers to engage with the store's sustainability efforts. The extension of the program is a testament to Lidl's responsiveness to customer needs and environmental concerns.
How the Program Works
During the program, customers can return containers that are not part of the deposit system, regardless of where they were purchased. The refund can be received either as cash or as a voucher for future purchases at Lidl. Customers simply need to scan the printed receipt from the reverse vending machine at the checkout to redeem their refunds. Notably, no proof of purchase is required for the returned bottles and cans, making it a hassle-free process.
Lidl was the first retail chain in Poland to implement this kind of recycling initiative, launching reverse vending machines across all its stores back in April of last year. Currently, there are over 950 machines in operation, designed to test the collection system prior to the official introduction of the deposit system. The enthusiastic response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many actively utilizing the machines to return their empty containers.
In addition to this non-deposit program, Lidl also supports the official deposit system for bottles and cans marked with the Polish deposit logo, allowing for easy returns regardless of where these items were purchased. This dual approach not only enhances convenience for customers but also strengthens Lidl's role in promoting recycling and environmental responsibility.
