On Wednesday, July 22, an honorary consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan was inaugurated in Marrakech, attended by diplomatic, academic, and economic figures, as well as representatives from local authorities. This significant event was presided over by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Sulikole Silukizi, who appointed Younes El Sassi, the CEO and founder of Anfa Realty Group, as the honorary consul of Kazakhstan, based in Marrakech.
The establishment of this consulate aims to protect the rights and interests of Kazakh citizens residing in the Marrakech-Safi region or passing through it. Furthermore, it seeks to foster connections between economic, institutional, cultural, and tourism actors from both nations. In her speech, Sulikole highlighted that the opening of this honorary consulate marks a new phase in enhancing her country’s consular presence in Morocco. She emphasized that this proximity representation will deepen the ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Kazakhstan while supporting the dynamics of bilateral cooperation.
The Kazakh diplomat pointed out that this consulate will play an active role in facilitating the establishment of connections with the local economic fabric, supporting initiatives for bilateral cooperation, and paving the way for new investment opportunities. Additionally, she mentioned the significant progress made in the relations between the two countries since May 26, 1992, specifically noting the opening of the Kazakh embassy in Rabat in December 2020 and the implementation of a visa exemption for national passport holders starting in March 2025, allowing stays of up to 30 days. Moreover, the establishment of the Morocco-Kazakhstan Business Council was highlighted.
The ambassador noted that choosing Marrakech for the honorary consulate is strategic, given that the city serves as a hub for tourism, cultural, and commercial flows, boasting significant international influence. In turn, El Sassi expressed his pride in taking on this responsibility, affirming his commitment to leveraging his entrepreneurial expertise and deep knowledge of the Moroccan economic landscape to bridge the two countries.
He added that this consulate, which will operate in close coordination with the Kazakh embassy in Rabat, aims to enhance economic exchanges, support bilateral cooperation initiatives, and facilitate the emergence of new partnerships between Moroccan and Kazakh economic actors. It is noteworthy that the honorary consulate's headquarters is located within the Anfa Villas Marrakech project, which is the first real estate development by Anfa Realty Group in the red city.
The inauguration of this consulate symbolizes the birth of a new space for dialogue and cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Kazakhstan, reflecting the steadfast will of both nations to strengthen the bonds of friendship and partnership that unite them.
