Jardin de Poème in Rabat: A Celebration of Youth on World Poetry Day
The inaugural edition of the "Jardin de Poème" event is set to take place from April 30 to May 2, 2026, in Rabat, coinciding with the global festivities marking World Poetry Day and the designation of Rabat as the World Capital of Books. This initiative, supported by various institutional and educational partners, aims to foster poetic creativity among the youth while showcasing emerging talents.
A Vital Initiative for Poetic Expression
In Rabat, poetry is being woven into the fabric of cultural activities with the introduction of the "Jardin de Poème". This event is part of a broader movement promoting both reading and writing poetry, reflecting the international recognition of World Poetry Day, which is backed by the House of Poetry in Morocco and national cultural authorities. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the programming for "Rabat, World Capital of Books 2026".
The two-day program focuses on both training and practical application, offering theoretical and practical workshops in poetic writing to students and learners aged 20 and above who have an interest in literary creation. These workshops are designed to equip participants with essential tools for self-expression and to nurture their artistic sensibilities. A visit to the International Book Fair is also included, allowing participants to explore the House of Poetry's publications and activities.
The event will culminate in an open mic night dedicated to celebrating young talents, providing a platform for participants to present their original works to an audience. This approach aims to recognize and elevate the new generation of poets. Symbolic prizes, including poetry collections and certificates, will be awarded to participants, encouraging their continued engagement in literary creation.
The closing evening will feature a tribute to the esteemed poet and zajjal Mourad El Kadiri, a prominent figure in Moroccan poetry and president of the House of Poetry. During this event, he will recite some of his poems, accompanied by reflections from poetess Fatiha Nouhou on her journey. The event, organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, in collaboration with the Parents' Association of Al-Fath High School, will also feature performances by artist Mohamed El Achraqi, who will interpret contemporary Moroccan poetry, along with Jamal El Ghiyouani, who will present his compositions inspired by the ghiyouan style.
