Embracing Poetry: The Inaugural Jardin de Poème Event
The first edition of the "Jardin de Poème" event is set to take place from April 30 to May 2, 2026, in Rabat, coinciding with the global celebration of World Poetry Day and the designation of Rabat as the World Capital of Books. This initiative, supported by various institutional and educational partners, aims to inspire young talents and foster poetic creation among the youth. The event aligns with the international recognition of World Poetry Day, promoted by the House of Poetry in Morocco and national cultural authorities, and is part of the programming for "Rabat, World Capital of Books 2026".
Workshops to Nurture Emerging Talent
During this two-day event, the focus will be on education and the practical application of poetry writing. Workshops are designed for students aged 20 and over who have a keen interest in literature and poetic expression. These sessions will provide participants with essential tools for artistic expression, helping them develop their artistic sensibilities. Furthermore, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the International Book Fair, including a stop at the House of Poetry's pavilion, where they can explore its publications and activities.
The event will culminate in an evening dedicated to showcasing emerging voices in poetry, where participants will present their works before an audience. This not only serves as a platform for recognition but also highlights the new generation of poets. To encourage their literary pursuits, symbolic prizes, including poetry collections and certificates, will be awarded to participants.
The closing night will also pay tribute to the poet and zajjal Mourad El Kadiri, a prominent figure in Moroccan poetry and the president of the House of Poetry. He will perform some of his poems, alongside a testimony from poetess Fatiha Nouhou, reflecting on her journey in the literary world. This event, organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, in collaboration with the Parents' Association of Al-Fath High School, will feature performances from artist Mohamed El Achraqi, who will interpret contemporary Moroccan poetry, and Jamal El Ghiyouani, who will present his compositions inspired by the ghiyouan style.
