In January 2026, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region experienced a remarkable growth in entrepreneurial activity, with a total of 1,117 new companies established, according to a report from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property. This report, included in the periodic dashboard of business creation indicators, highlights that these newly formed entities comprise both corporate entities (648 companies) and individual entrepreneurs (469 companies).
Leading the charge is the city of Tangier, which accounted for 861 of the new businesses, followed by Tetouan with 140, and both Larache and Al Hoceima each contributing 33 new firms. Other towns such as Ksar el Kebir saw 25 new companies emerge, while Wazan, Asilah, and Chefchaouen each added 7 new businesses, and Targuist managed to establish 1 company.
Examining the distribution of new businesses by sector, trade takes the lion's share, representing 42.11% of all newly established companies. This is followed by the construction and public works, as well as real estate sectors, which accounted for 15.87%, and various services at 13.98%. The transportation sector contributed 9.70%, while the industrial sector made up 6.74%. Additionally, the hospitality and restaurant sector constituted 5.92%, information and communication technologies 3.04%, financial activities 1.97%, and agriculture and fisheries 0.66%.
In terms of legal structure, 64.7% of the newly created firms are single-member limited liability companies (SARL-AU), followed by limited liability companies at 34.8%, with other legal forms making up the remainder. On a national scale, the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property reported that a total of 7,874 new companies were established in January 2026. This figure includes 5,827 corporate entities (74%) and 2,047 individual entrepreneurs (26%). Geographically, the Casablanca-Settat region topped the list with 39.6% of newly established companies (corporate entities), followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra at 13.8%, Marrakech-Safi at 12.5%, and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima at 11.1%. These four regions alone account for a staggering 77% of all new businesses created nationwide.
