Irish Poker Open Expands Internationally: A New Era for Poker Enthusiasts

Irish Poker Open Goes Global

The renowned Irish Poker Open, which has been a staple in Dublin for 46 years, is set to broaden its horizons with exciting new international events. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and rich history, this prestigious tournament series is now making its way to Australia, Morocco, and the United States, aiming to reach an even wider audience and enhance its global presence.

With a legacy that rivals even the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in terms of tradition, the organizers of the Irish Poker Open are determined to make this legendary poker festival more accessible than ever. The newly introduced Irish Poker Open International Series will feature stops beyond the shores of Ireland, starting with Sydney in September. During this ten-day event at the Poker Palace, players can look forward to a thrilling Main Event that boasts an impressive A$1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Upcoming International Events

Following Sydney, the tour will head to Marrakesh in November, where the popular Casino de Marrakech will host a six-day poker festival, complete with a Main Event that guarantees €500,000. The excitement doesn't stop there; the series plans to make its debut in the United States in 2027, with the specific location yet to be announced.

According to Paul O’Reilly, co-owner of the Irish Poker Open, “The Irish Open has been held in Dublin since 1980, making it the oldest No-Limit Hold'em event in Europe. The game itself originated from America, brought over by Terry Rogers after he met Benny Binion in Las Vegas, so 'internationality' is ingrained in our DNA.” O’Reilly also highlighted the vision for the future, stating that the Irish Open Internationals have been in development for several years, aiming to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2030 with an expansion that includes exceptional standalone events at premier locations worldwide, culminating in multiple international Day-1 events leading into the flagship festival in Dublin.

JP McCann, the organizer and tournament director of the Irish Poker Open, added, “Our ambition is straightforward: to make the Irish Open the largest tournament in the world by its 50th anniversary.” This new chapter for the Irish Poker Open promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for players and fans alike, marking the beginning of something truly special in the world of poker.
