Ghana's Position on the Sahara Issue
In a significant diplomatic development, Ghana has declared its support for the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, recognizing it as the only realistic and sustainable foundation for a mutually acceptable resolution to the long-standing Sahara conflict. Furthermore, Ghana has expressed its endorsement of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which emphasizes full support for the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy in facilitating negotiations based on Morocco's autonomy proposal. This resolution aims to achieve a fair, lasting, and mutually agreeable solution to the dispute in alignment with the principles of the UN Charter. Ghana's reaffirmation of its diplomatic position aligns with the ongoing international momentum spearheaded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, advocating for the autonomy plan and emphasizing Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara region.
